After months of owning it I finally took the time to get use to it and learn the ins and out of the Lensbaby 3G a.k.a. Control Freak. I got the secondhand lens for $60, I fell madly in love with it after I got out to use it. I've fallen so much so that I have a set of the Lensbaby Composer, not sure if it's the pro, with the Sweet 35 & Edge 50 optics on lay-a-way at my local camera store. I also got a replacement aperture kit and the Creative aperture kit for the 3G. I don't know why I though that if I bought any of the Lensbabies that they would be in my bag most of the time when my dream lens is a $600 Lomography lens (Petzval 85mm Brass).
Lomography, what's that?
Lomography is a type of photography which took off in the early 90's across Europe. Actually in 1991 a group of Viennese students discovered a cheaply made Russia camera that made funky images. Lomography is truly an art form, some of you might view the images as not great, they are not meant to look like the came from a top of the line camera. *For more information on this check out it's wikipedia page and the magazine for Lomography and to view some images I came acrossed Anna Frost's site and loved here images
Anyways, back to Lensbaby lenses, if you liked Lomography and want to get creative... GO go now and search out your first Lensbaby as secondhand to try out! I've come acrossed the 3G from anywhere around the $60, EF Canon mount, I paid to $44 on a Sony alpha mount. It truly is a fun little lens... I'll post some of my images for you to see what you can create.
As for Lensbaby themselves they have three groups I have joined on Facebook (Lensbaby Life, Lensbaby Artisty and Lensbaby Love) they seem like a very creative bunch and friendly. Lensbaby love even has a challenge based website at Lensbaby Love and of course Lensbaby's own website.
Please check back. Plus this weeks blog may be a two part thing. Many exciting things going on in my photographic life this week.
